Right
up until the last five minutes he was still
in the overall top twenty, but had slipped
to third privateer, with both championship
leaders, Tristan Palmer and James Buckingham
went tenths faster. Ending up in 22nd and
on the sixth row in front of some good
riders, meant the team could be more than
happy with the job they had done and could
look forward to the next days racing. The
day dawned bright and sunny and the whole
team were in a bouyant mood. Faulkner and
his team, proudly took their place on the
grid, lining up just behind the official
factory Yamaha of Tommy Hill, only four
tenths of a second quicker in qualifying.
At the start, Faulkner, traditionally selected
reverse and made it hard for himself, losing
a number of places off the line. He then
set about getting past Guy Martin on the
Phase One Yamaha, but the extra straight
line performance of the 2007 bike was making
it diificult. After a safety car intervention,
Martin got the jump on Faulkner, but within
two laps he was on his tail, setting the
fastest privateer lap of the race on the
way. Unfortunately this was to be his undoing
as, going for a closing gap at Druids had
Faulkner squeezing a little too hard on
the brake lever and resulted in him low
siding into retirement. A shame but Faulkner
and the team were over the moon about the
fastest lap of 46.9, only 1.4 seconds slower
than Lavilla, who broke the lap record
by 0.4 seconds on his factory Ducati! In
race two, the start was pretty much the
same, but after about ten laps the race
was red flagged due to oil on the track
from James Buckinghams blown engine. Unfortunately
the team didnt have a new tyre to put on
and this would badly effect his grip in
the restart! Not being able to match his
times in the first race, Faulkner still
managed to hold on to second place and
joined Tristan Palmer and Malcolm Ashley
on the podium as a fittig finish to the
season. The whole team breathed a huge
sigh of relief as Faulkner crosed the finish
line, with no incidents and no mechanical
problems! A great job, by Gary, Paul, Mike,
Frank and Chunky, Ade, Ian and Kevin at
Virgin Media Yamaha. Special thanks again
to Pete Beale for an engine that ran faultlessly
all weekend and saw the Team Emco Yamaha
further up the speed trap charts than it
had been all season.
